The use of open acid tanks for surface treating metals places extremely high demands on the chemical resistance and mechanical strength of the tanks and exhaust air systems used. As an energy source from renewable raw materials, biogas is gaining greater and greater economic importance. In the absence of oxygen, microorganisms convert carbohydrates, proteins and fats into the main products methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The organic raw materials are broken down by microorganisms into water, organic acids, carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen (H2). In addition, nitrogen (N2), hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3) are usually also present.
