How does it work?
The water and the hot gas flow at high velocity in a cocurrent direction, parallel through vertical cylindrical tubes (“quench pipes”). Water evaporation extracts heat from the gas stream, enabling near-complete adiabatic cooling down to the wet-bulb temperature.
