From Aggressive Process Exhaust Air to an Energy-Efficient Integrated System
HLU Environmental & Energy Day 2026: Focus on Operational Reliability, Chemical Resistance and Energy Efficiency
How can operational reliability, chemical resistance and energy efficiency be effectively combined in industrial process air technology? This question was at the heart of the HLU Environmental & Energy Day on September 24, 2026, in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany. More than 60 participants from industry, engineering and plant construction attended the event to exchange knowledge and expertise.
The focus was on the interaction of the entire process air system – from the extraction of chemically contaminated exhaust air to exhaust air purification and heat recovery, through to demand-based supply air systems.
A diverse programme of technical presentations highlighted the various requirements for safe and energy-efficient exhaust air systems. Topics ranged from selecting the right materials and using corrosion-resistant plastic fans to the operating principles of industrial exhaust air scrubbers and the economical recovery of heat from aggressive process exhaust air.
Further key topics included the modular design of plastic air handling units (AHUs), demand-based supply air systems and current funding opportunities for energy-efficient investments.
Technology You Can Experience
An accompanying exhibition demonstrated how the individual components work together. Plastic fans, a carbon fibre impeller and a plastic air handling unit (AHU) featuring an integrated exhaust air scrubber, heat recovery, sound attenuation and a fan illustrated the benefits of an integrated approach to system design.
A particular highlight was the detailed LEGO model of an industrial plant.
The numerous technical discussions highlighted the importance of combining operational reliability, chemical resistance and energy efficiency in industrial processes.
We would like to thank all speakers and participants for their informative presentations, valuable discussions and the successful exchange of expertise.
