Many chemicals used in the laboratory release vapours that are harmful to health when they are stored or handled. The vapours of the stored chemicals therefore need to be effectively extracted using a 24-hour continuous run fan.
Bench-mounted fume cupboards and fume hoods include exhaust air cleaning units and fans which are specially designed for high chemical contamination, which occurs, for example, when vaporizing inorganic acids such as sulphuric and hydrochloric acid or aqua regia.
The needs-oriented control of the fume cupboard exhaust air is carried out by volume flow controllers. Additional protection requirements arise when handling potentially explosive media.
